Aircraft Carrier Information Cases: 3 Objectives:
Sub-Objectives:
You and your partner are once again falling from the sky, only this time it is toward the deck of an aircraft carrier. The terrorists that have taken over the boat are not happy about your arrival and are on deck to try to shoot you out of the sky. Use your sniper rifle to clear as many of these guys off the deck as you can before you land. Once you’ve got feet on solid boat, you’ll begin a back to back sequence. Have no mercy and eliminate all that you can before the time runs out on the back to back. You’ll often find that once a back to back sequence ends you are thrown right back into the battle but on your own. That won’t happen this time, at least not right away. You will get a brief cut scene featuring Clyde coming to your rescue. When the cut scene is over, Clyde will leave and leave you on deck to continue the battle yourselves. What lies in front of you now is indeed a long battle. You now have to fight your way up the length of the ships deck and in the process disable four jets parked there. There are quite a few terrorists on the deck of the ship and to start off with you are best staying near the back where you are for a while and clearing out the ones running amongst the crates right in front of you. They have no pattern and are pretty darned sneaky, so before advancing too far forward always make sure to check the entire width of the ship for terrorists that have been intelligent enough to get beside and behind you. Play this entire section slowly and carefully. Take your time, use your cover and move your partner up a little at a time. As you get near the tower portion of the ship, a helo will sweep across and drop off another wave of terrorists. Again, move with a purpose and take your time and wipe out this new wave. As you near the front of the ship yet another helo will make another drop and you’ll have one last wave to deal with. When you have finally killed the last terrorist you will hear the bell signalling your success and you can set about the task at hand. See the note below to grab your first Information Case for this mission.
There are four jets on the deck that need to be disabled; two are directly across from the ships tower and the other two are up at the front of the boat where the last wave of terrorists were. The jets are easily identified by going to your GPS unit and looking for the flashing green. Step up to the nose wheel of each jet (it will be flashing orange) and you will be prompted to press A to disable the aircraft. When all jets have been disabled this objective will be complete and you can finally move into the belly of the aircraft carrier. In order to continue you’ll first have to approach the large door directly beneath the “6” in the “76” on the side of the control tower. You can’t get in that way, but you’ll have to go there to find that out before you can move on. Discovering that the door is not going to be the easy way in you’ll have to make your way back to – yes, you guessed it – where you started at the back of the ship. Of course there will also be more terrorists hiding amongst the containers again (6 or 8, we’re not sure how many our AI partner killed) and you’ll have to fight your way through them to get to the stairs on the right side of the ship (as you face the back) to go below deck. Make your way to the bottom of the stairs and open the door on your left as you get there. You’ll automatically enter and drop down to the area below. You’ll see in front of you an open door and a riot shield. You can do your own math here but the safe bet is to grab the shield and walk through the doorway. There are four terrorists at the other end of the platform shooting at you and they have better cover than you, so use the shield to your advantage and let your partner take them out. When they are all gone you can drop the shield and get ready to open the next door at the end of this platform. When you enter this next room you’ll find that you are looking down on Clyde exchanging information with a terrorist. As you can probably imagine, he’s not real happy to see you but that isn’t much different from any other time you’ve met him. Clyde will bail out of the room and leave you with a handful of terrorists shooting at you. The best strategy for this area is to stay up top and use the barrels for cover. You also have the door you entered there for you if you need to back out and take a breather and regain your health. The terrorists won’t come up there, so you basically have a nice little nest to wipe them out from. When you hear the bell signalling that everyone has been killed you can jump down below and grab the USB drive from the laptop and mark off another objective. Now you can climb up the ladder on the other side of the room and go out the door on this platform. Drop down into the next room and your partner should get into position to let you step jump up to the next area. Don’t go hopping up there right away because there are two terrorists right there and they start shooting like they knew you were coming, so get rid of them quickly. When the room is cleared, climb up and pull up your partner. Use the cutting torch in the cage next to the door and you’ll open up a hole in the floor to move down to the next level. We wouldn’t suggest running through the next doorway into the lower hanger right away because you are in for another firefight that will make the one on deck look like a training mission. Stay in the doorway and take out as many terrorists as you can from there. We’re not sure how many terrorists are in here because they seem to be all over the place and there are lots of places for them to hide and since they run from cover to cover and pop up in different places, it was hard to take a count. The best way to get through this is to know what you are getting into. This is a large flat hanger with planes and containers and missiles spread around for cover. You are at one end of the hanger. On either side of the hanger are large elevator platforms to raise planes up to the upper deck. (For those of you that have played Resistance: Fall of Man online, this area is VERY similar to the lower deck of the USS Lexington multiplayer map) When you have cleared enough of the first wave of terrorists, another handful will come down on the elevator to your left as you look across the hanger. Stay to your end of the hanger as much as possible to clear them out. Do NOT go to the right side of the hanger because when enough of those have been cleared another handful will come down on the right elevator. We thought we were pretty smart going over there to wipe out the first wave in one barrage of gunfire only to find we got ourselves shot in the back when the next wave came down. The same tactic applies down here that applied up on deck. Take your time, use your teamwork and be patient. Running and gunning will get you killed in here. When the bell tolls signaling the final death, see the note below to get the 2nd information case before moving on.
Before going any further, Clyde’s second laptop is in this hanger and you need to find it to complete the sub objective. On the other end of the hanger but on the same side you came in from, you’ll find this laptop sitting on a small red container tucked in a corner. If you are looking at the elevator that the first wave of terrorists came down on, the door you entered the hanger through is on the left of the elevator and the laptop is just to the right of it under the catwalks. Press A near this laptop to complete this sub objective. By now you’re ready to move on. You’re a bit trapped in this hanger at the moment so you’ll need to create your own way out. There are no cutting torches around so we’re going to follow a Marine motto and improvise, adapt and overcome. There are four jets parked in here but you need the one that is pointed at the corner diagonal to the way you came in. (Use your GPS and it will be the only one blinking green) Walk over to the nose wheel again and press the A to lift your partner into the cockpit. He’ll fire a missile from the jet and blow open the door in the corner giving you a way out of the hanger. Unfortunately this also gives a Heavy a way in and 10 of his guards drop in from the elevators. Quickly find cover and take care of the guards. They spread themselves pretty thinly around the hanger so keep an eye on where the heavy is and get those guards out of the way as soon as possible. With the guards gone you can then set forth on the task to wipe out the Heavy. The standard procedure of finding a place to put your partner in an aggressive hold works very nicely in here because of all the cover. You can easily sneak your way around behind the Heavy to take him out. When the bell tolls and you can freely move on, head out the “door” that the Heavy came in and go down the short hallway to the red elevator. Press the button to go in. There is no fighting for a minute or two, so follow the halls into the darkened bridge of the ship. You’ll meet the captain there and you’ll get a cut scene explaining what is going to happen next. Since you’ve met the captain, you’ve completed an objective and it just wouldn’t be right if he didn’t give you another one. You’ve got to destroy the aircraft carrier. Once the cut scene is over, head back out of the bridge and back into the elevator. When you step out of the elevator there will be a short set of stairs to go down and you’ll be at the entrance to yet another hanger full of angry terrorists. (Like we see a lot of happy terrorists) Either because some programmer remembered to leave one or out of some kind of mercy, there is a riot shield waiting for you there before you step into the hanger. Unfortunately we found the shield useless. You can pick it up and step into the hanger at which point you will get a short cut scene, but when the cut scene is over you are no longer holding the shield and you are standing there with nothing getting shredded. Pick it up again and you are getting shot from both sides, so your partner is dying and you are left unable to shoot so we found it best to fall back a bit and forget the shield. Again, patience and teamwork will get you across the hanger and be cautious as you approach the other end because another wave of terrorists will come down from the aircraft elevator on the right as you near the end of the hanger (See note below).
When the area is clear, you’ll need to open these large hanger doors. The only way to do it is up on a scaffold to the right of the door. Your partner will let you step jump up to the platform. Pull him up with you and the actual task will be taken care of by a cut scene. When the hydraulics have been cut you will be able to jump back down and open the door by hand. As soon as the door is open, step back into cover and keep your reticle on that opening. About 7 or 8 terrorists will come pouring through and they are real intent on getting behind you which is going to be real tricky for you when you realize there is a Heavy on the other side of that door sporting an RPG. The Heavy never seems to come through the opening, so as long as you stay to the sides out of his line of fire, you shouldn’t have much trouble taking care of the terrorists that come through the door. Since the door opening is so small it funnels the terrorists down and if you’ve got a pretty powerful weapon (we prefer the PKM) you can slaughter half of them or more as they come in the door. Finish off the stragglers after that and then you can focus on the Heavy. We put our partner in an aggressive hold behind the white aircraft tow vehicle right in front of the opening. Since the Heavy is using an RPG he is dangerous, but he is also real slow to reload. We used this opportunity to run right in front of him through the doorway and get around behind the containers that were directly behind him. Use caution when you do this as there may still be a guard or two running around loose back there so you’ll have to take care of them as well. Move quickly, keep your head down and your gun up. Once you are in place behind the Heavy, your partner should have his full attention. You can now stand mere feet behind him and blow him away. When he is down, if you have not got the bell signaling the final death, look around for any stragglers hiding behind boxes. Before completing your final objective for this mission, see the note below for the last information case.
Your objective sits near the back of this hanger in the middle. There are two bombs there and they are sitting on a small elevator. (Use the GPS if you aren’t sure where they are) Step up to them and press the A button to lower them into the depths of the ship. You have now begun the final nightmare of the mission. As soon as you have control again after lowering the bombs, go to the back left side of the hanger (facing as you were when you came in) around behind the stacks of missiles and bombs. Your partner will help you step jump up to the platform above. Lift your partner up with you and run all the way across to the other end and enter the door there. Follow this short hallway around and rip this next door off with the help of your partner. A brief cutscene lets you know that the good captain sealed the fate of the aircraft carrier – while you were still on it. At the very least, it sinks slow, so you can still get off. When the cut scene is over you’ll be on familiar territory. You’re back on the deck of the ship and it looks just like it did before, except that it is pitching badly, stuff is exploding and flying at you and terrorists are running right at you firing. The objective here is simple. All you have to do is get to the emergency raft, which is at the rear of the boat. Unfortunately you happen to be at the front of the boat. There is only one tactic here – RUN! Huge containers will be flying at you as you go. Dodge the containers, shoot back at the terrorists if you must but do it while you’re running. Laugh at the terrorist getting mauled by the flying containers. Your only goal is to get to the back of the boat. Remember the stairs you went down to go below deck when you started this mission? You want to be at the same set of stairs. The emergency raft is at the top of the stairs. Approach the raft and the mission is over.
