"On July 11th, 1951, the Americans launched an assault on the Eastern coast of England.  On the second wave of that assault was a Sergeant named Nathan Hale.  The actions of that Ranger have become a matter of both scrutiny and myth.  What follows are the known events of his life from July 11th to July the 14th, the day he was last seen."

About Candied Skull-

Writing game guides is a relatively new thing for me.  In fact I only started doing it about 6 months ago and as of this guide, this will be my fifth.  I've been writing for other venues for a number of years, however.  An avid gamer as well as having a house full of kids that are growing to be avid gamers as well, we have made use of more than our share of game guides and between all of us that play in this house, there probably isn't a style of game that hasn't passed through these doors.  With a wife that is a manager for a major video game retailer, it was probably inevitable that I was going to do something along these lines eventually.  The first guide was a complete accident.  My wife felt like she ought to start playing video games more so she would be more knowledgeable at her job, so she picked up the game for "The Da Vinci Code".  Trying to be helpful, I wrote a little guide for her to help her get through her first quest to complete a game.  As it turned out, it was also the first guide that had been written for the game, so I cleaned it up a bit and sent it in  to one of the dozens of FAQ sites and within 3 days I had requests to post the guide from no less than 15 websites.  The rest, as they say, is history.

I wrote a second guide not long after that for Grand Theft Auto:  Liberty City Stories.  It wasn't the first guide out there, but it caught a lot of attention.  Enough attention that I heard from an editor at a nationally recognized gaming magazine.  A month after that, I was published in their magazine and actually earning real money to write about games.  I've since had a second article printed in their magazine and have no less than 6 articles on their two websites.  When I called my mom, who is 1000 miles away in North Carolina, she, for the first time in her life, went out to the local WalMart and bought a video game magazine so she could see her sons name in print.  Like any good mom would do, she called me right up and proudly said, "What in the hell kind of name is Candied Skull?!"

One of the many sites that picked up my guides was IGN, and when word got out that I was one of the nut jobs that was going to be getting a PS3, they came to me and asked if I would like to do a guide on Resistance: Fall of Man for them.  Honored by the request from such a reputable source, I had no other option but to jump at the chance to do something that doesn't come around very often.  Writing a game guide for THE launch title on the release of one of the most anticipated game console releases in gaming history was far too much to pass up.  To write a guide for a game made by Insomniac made the endeavor that much more appealing.  It was like opening a Christmas present to find there was a Birthday present inside.  A huge fan of the original Spyro the Dragon and the Ratchet and Clank series, getting to see what Insomniac could do with a more "serious" piece of work was something to look forward to, and they certainly didn't let me down.

About the Game-

Resistance:  Fall of Man gives us what Insomniac has called an alternate history".  The virus that created the Chimeran race is believed to be the result of biological experiments done by the Russians in the 1930's.  Stories of entire villages being destroyed overnight began to leak out and it was believed for a while that the Russians had developed a weapon of incredible magnitude.  As it turned out, whatever the Russians had created, it had backfired on them.  The Chimera contained themselves to Russia for over 10 years, but finally in 1949, they moved west into Europe and had taken over all of it save for England.

Feeling somewhat protected by the English Channel, England was briefly spared but nevertheless prepared themselves the best they could.  Unknown to the Britains, the onward drive of the Chimerans was not hesitance, but it was instead a delay as they tunneled beneath the channel.  In October of 1950, the Chimera emerged from the ground in England and a new stage of the war had begun.  The British put up a fight for almost 3 months, but found their efforts futile against the Chimera.  The people of Britain were forced to abandon their cities to the Chimera, and those that survived were forced into hiding at military bases and outposts scattered about the countryside.  Britain had been lost to the Chimerans.

Gathering forces and strength, the American military assembled its troops to head to England and stop the Chimeran spread.  On July 11, 1951, the assault began in York, England and American Army Sergeant Nathan Hale was amongst those that landed.  You begin the game as Sgt. Hale.  Lead him in his fight against the Chimera and help to change the course of history . . . .

Enjoy the game, and the site!
