So we're trying something a little different here. You are being given the opportunity to drop the restraints of text based game guide writing and show the gaming community just what you are capable of. Understanding that, we still have to show some decorum, so you'll be asked to keep the following conditions in mind when putting together your work:
-
First and foremost, copyright infringement will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances! This is even worth repeating: copyright infringement will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances! Any work you submit must be your own and the inclusion of anyone else's work within your guide must be properly credited and you must have permission to use it. This is not in the slightest bit flexible. Anyone caught violating someone else's copyright will have their guide removed IN ITS ENTIRETY until the matter has been fixed. Repeat offenders will be permanently banned from posting on candiedskull.com.
-
The freedom candiedskull.com allows for the format of your guide considers that you may want to use different background and text colors, which is perfectly acceptable, however, don't overdo it. Stick to a color theme and try to keep the number of colors used to something reasonable. Loud and overbearing guides will not be posted. Our visitors want to read what you have to say, not be bombarded by your knowledge of hex values.
-
Keep images to a reasonable size. If you have a large image for a location map or something similar, we can post it on its own page and have it open in a new window for the readers convenience, but trying to slam a 1280x768 image in the middle of your text just ruins the entire page. In the event you need one of these windows to open, send the original image as well as a thumbnail.
-
For those of you that know my work, you'll already be aware of my feelings about proper spelling and grammar. A slip here and there is acceptable and expected, but the use of internet shorthand is inexcusable. Type out your words. "2", "4", "r", and "u" are not words, they are characters and they will not be used on candiedskull.com to represent words. Most all of you have a "spell check" of one form or another. Use it.
-
Profanity - we'll probably be a little more lenient about this than most sites you have been to, but it doesn't mean we'll allow your guide to be a "nuclear f-bomb". Keep the language to a fair minimum and keep it appropriate to the game you are writing about. An f-bomb dropped in the middle of a guide for Scarface: The World is Yours is probably alright, but not in a guide for Super Paper Mario. Keep in mind the type of audience that will be playing the game.
-
Be factual. candiedskull.com is not a rumor mill. If you know something will work, by all means write about it, but we don't want to see "my buddy at school's dad works with a guy that has a cousin that once emptied the trash cans at Rockstar Games and he says that GTA IV has hidden pink bunnies in it!" You lose your readers faith the minute you start posting that garbage and it is near impossible to get back. If you must post something in your guide that you have not personally verified, at least provide a link to the source so the reader themselves can determine who is full of crap.
-
candiedskull.com does not participate in "fanboyism". We are not affiliated with Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo or any game developers and we do not receive any funding from any of those sources. Reasonable and intelligent statements made about your console of choice are your opinion and perfectly acceptable in your guide, but immature "*insert console here* SUCKS!" type statements will be cut from your guide. We are fans of all the consoles here and do not support "console wars".
